John G. Southall, 22, who had been serving in Vietnam, died of injuries received in a jeep accident in the vicinity of Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam.
John, who was a corporal, was born at Hammersmith, London, England, February 9, 1946, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Southall, 614 Walnut, Wamego. A sister, Mrs. Bill Moore, resided at 905 Ash.
He graduated at Wamego High School and attended KSTC, (Kansas Teachers College), Emporia. He participated in football, basketball and baseball. John was a member of The Young Republican Club for Senator Pearson. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines, February 1, 1966 and arrived in Vietnam September 14, 1967. John was a member of the first resupply convoy to go from Dong Ha to Khe Sanh
after the siege was lifted from Khe Sanh. John was wounded in action and had received a Purple Heart medal. He recently had written a letter to the Wamego Times urging readers to send needed
